Guidelines

Measurements are recorded in inches

Measurement Breakdown

📏 A. Head Circumference

  • Measure around your dog’s head, just in front of the ears.
  • This helps ensure the coat can comfortably go over the head if needed.
  •  Not always required, but helpful for snug-fitting styles.

📏 B. Neck Circumference

  • Measure around the base of the neck where a collar naturally sits.
  • Keep the tape snug but not tight.
  • You should be able to fit two fingers under the tape.

📏 C. Back Length

  • Measure from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.
  • Keep the tape straight along the spine.
  • This determines how much coverage your dog will have. This is where you will indicate if you want the coat to be longer.

📏 D. Chest Circumference

  • Measure around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.
  • Make sure the tape goes all the way around evenly.
  • This is one of the key measurements for fit.

📏 E. Front Leg Length  For Rompers & Jumpsuits

  • Measure from the armpit down to the wrist.
  • Useful for coats or sweaters with sleeves.

📏 F. Back Leg Length - For Rompers & Jumpsuits

  • Measure from the hip down to the hock (the back “ankle”).
  • Helpful for full-coverage styles or rompers.

🐾 Measuring Tips

  • Use a soft measuring tape
  • Measure while your dog is standing
  • Do not pull the tape too tight
  • Use your dog’s exact measurements. No adjustments needed. Fit allowances are built into the pattern during drafting
  • Be patient and take your time. Reward your dog with praise and treats.
